Genetic PGD

Pre-Implantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) is a procedure that can be added to In Vitro Fertilization. Embryos created by IVF are genetically analyzed.

If either parent has or is a carrier for a genetically based disease, it is possible to target the PGD analysis for that specific genetic condition. PGD makes it possible to select only the unaffected embryos for transfer into the uterus.

There are many incurable diseases or disorders which are genetically based. For example, chromosomal translocations and inversions, Cystic Fibrosis, Fragile X, Myotonic Dystrophy, Thalassaemia, Tay Sachs disease, and many others.

Please see Gender Selection for description of the PGD procedure.

For additional information, please see Genetic PGD Protocol, Pregnancy Probability, Genetic PGD Cost and Genetic PGD Prerequisites.

If you have any questions regarding Genetic PGD or to request an appointment, please contact us by phone at 650-322-0500, via email at care@BayIVF.com, or use the Contact Bay IVF Center form on this page.
